Sound and Hearing Loss

Sound travels in waves. You can measure it in decibels, (shown by height of visualization) or frequencies (shown by how wide the peaks are). There are a lot of ways you can edit sound, including pitch or speed changes. When you save sound, often as an mp4, you must decide if you want to use lossy or lossless compression, just like with photos.

Unfortunately, some people are just exposed to too much sound. This can lead to hearing loss in young adults. It is irreversible, but can be treated with hearing aids. There have been a lot of advances in hearing aid technology, and you can now get aids that are practically invisible. To prevent hearing loss, turn down your volume! Also make sure you have earplugs if you will be exposed to a very loud noise, such as a concert.
